Work Experience
From February 4th - 15th 2013 (14 days) I worked at Little Stars Nursery For my health and social care course I had to do 2 weeks work experience. I decided to go to a nursery because I like working with young children and I chose an particular nursery as it was 10-15 minutes down the road from my house, to work I would take the 321 bus which goes from New Cross Gate to Foots Cray Tesco visa versa.
I would leave my house at 8:30am just so I would be on time for work for 9:00am I would have my lunch break at 12:00pm once the children are sleeping my lunch break was an hour long, I finished work at 4:00pm each day. I was asked to wear black or navy trousers and a plan appropriate t-shirt with short sleeves.
I really enjoyed my first day as I got to work in the baby nest with children from 3 months to 18 months, I worked in the room for majority of the two weeks, once I was used to my placement and what my role was I was classed as a 'float' like three of the over members in the nursery. Being a float I'd float around a number of rooms like Daisy Room, Busy Bees Stage 1, Busy Bees Stage 2, V.I.P (Very Important Preschoolers) as well as the Baby Nest. While working with the children I got to see the different personalities of them and got to know them which was nice. This involved me taking a small group out and story time, arts and craft and messy play. I'd also help monitor children and take note if they have done anything WOW, like saying words they've never said before, taking first steps. I helped make the children cots by fitting the bed sheets on the mattresses and getting them a blanket each. I help feed the children their lunch I also helped tidy up like cleaning trays, washing/ sterilising children bottles and packing away experiment Because I working in a children environment i was not allowed to use my phone around the building apart from the staff room when on my lunch break.
